Maria Dumlao: Photography

Maria Dumlao received her MFA in studio art at Hunter College and BA in studio art and art history at Rutgers College.  With concentrations in photography, she worked closely with photographer Roy DeCarava and photographer/writer Diane Neumaier. For six years, Dumlao worked in the photo industry as an assistant to photo editors at Time Magazine and as a photo researcher at Impact Visuals, a photo stock agency.  She has also worked as a documentary and editorial photographer. Her photographs have been published in magazines including Hispanic Magazine, Response, Scholastic Magazine, Witness Magazine, Canadian Dimensions, Multinational Monitor, Solidarity Magazine, The Painted Bride Art Center Guide, Port Authority of NY & NJ Annual Report, in books published by Lucent Books, Mayfield Publishing Company, Children’s Press, West Publisher, M.E. Sharpe Publications and on CD covers released by Hopscotch Records, Evolving Ear, and Pax Recordings.

Informed by photography, her work in the last couple of years has encompassed in a variety of media, including photography, video, sound, installation, performance, artist books and public art. Her art has been exhibited and screened in Brooklyn Museum of Art, Art in General and Momenta Art Gallery in NYC, The Contemporary Museum in Hawaii and internationally in Utrecht, Barcelona, Vancouver, London, Madrid, Berlin, and Tokyo.
