SOLAR MOTEL

Solar Motel is an animation of landscapes culled from hundreds of images shared through a variety of social networking services. Driven by Chris Forsyth’s Solar Motel LP (issued in October 2013), the video is an extension beyond the musical composition. The video is part of both a live-feed video installation for live performance of the Solar Motel band (performed at The Rotunda in Philadelphia on November 15, 2013), as an accompaniment to the studio version of the LP, and as a video installation. The title is inspired by a derelict (now demolished) motel on Route 1 in central New Jersey that was decorated with elaborate sun imagery.  This place, for many years, captured Forsyth’s imagination in a poetic, ineffable way. It is also near this place that I met Forsyth. The music, video, and installation of the video in Solar Motel are each meant to evoke the power and warmth of the light of the sun, the source of all life.  It’s a primordial inspiration, suggesting a place where the basis of life itself could reside - a Solar Motel.
